Description
A Micro X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer is required for imaging of geological specimens, including hand samples, thin sections, and drill core. The instrument will be used primarily for studying carbonate, iron formation, and igneous rocks, and must be able to analyze the relevant periodic elements. Automated identification of minerals is required. The research objectives are to reconstruct the diagenetic history of sedimentary rocks as screening for more sophisticated geochemical analyses, and screening of igneous rocks for zircon and baddeleyite crystals prior to labour-intensive mineral separation processes.
